Regent Park
The Daniels Corporation has partnered with Toronto Community Housing to re-develop Regent Park – 69 acres in downtown Toronto. These organizations share the vision of creating a healthy, sustainable community that will bring new vitality to Toronto’s Downtown East. Daniels is the builder/developer for the entire community, including OneCole Condominiums, the first residential condominium in this important revitalization; OnePark West, the first condominium located on the new central park; Paintbox Condominiums, which rises from the new Arts & Cultural Centre, known as Daniels Spectrum; and next door to that, One Park Place.
The revitalization restores a diversity of architecture that matches surrounding neighbourhoods, reconnects Regent Park to Toronto’s grid of streets and avenues, and includes the creation of new commercial spaces and community facilities including a bank, grocery store, aquatic centre, new community centre, resturaunt and an Arts & Cultural Centre.
A key tenet of the revitalization is including both rent-geared-to-income and market units – together in the same community. When the Regent Park revitalization is completed over the next 10 to 15 years, 12,500 people will live in 5,115 units across 69 acres of the largest publicly funded community in Canada. The plan includes the replacement of the 2,083 existing social housing units in Regent Park with new, energy efficient, modern units and the introduction of approximately 3,000 market units for sale.
Beyond the physical infrastructure, the revitalization is acting as a catalyst for social and economic change with more than 465 jobs already created for local residents. Over the next several years, as the revitalization continues, Regent Park will undergo a remarkable transition that will mean big changes and exciting opportunities for residents new and old.
